Notes for John R. GILILLAND: John R. Gililland Research Notes By Michael L. Gililland October 4, 2001
This research relates to the John R. Gililland males born from 1820 to 1830. There are reportedly three, but the record appears incorrect. Robert 'Gil' Gililland reports by e-mail that each of the three Missouri brothers had a son John R. Here's what Gil says:
Mathias' son John R. B: 1/18/1820, Lincoln County, MO D: 9/7/1865, Grayson County, TX (moved there in 1858) M: Mary Catherine Ives, 7/3/1842, Lincoln County, MO
Robert's son John R. B: 1830 D: unknown M: Martha Sandefur, 5/25/1854
John Richardson's John R. B: 1820, Lincoln County, MO D: 1865
It seems more than coincidental that Mathias' son and John Richardson's son were born and died the same years.
Robert's will, recorded in 1873, mentions his son John R.
John Richardson's will, written in 1846, does not mention a son named John, even though it does mention children born before and after 1820. It seems unlikely that the will neglected to mention one son, when every other living child born to his first wife Agnes Johnson was mentioned. For this reason, I doubt that John Richardson had a son named John R. It further seems unlikely in that John Richardson Gililland had a son John Barnabus Gililland, whose descendants are fairly well documented.
