Notes for Benjamin Alexander Gililland: Benjamin Alexander Gililland made railroading his career. After two years as a stenographer for the Mobile & Ohio Railroad, he worked a year as a customer representative at the St. Louis Grain Exchange, then became a traffic clerk for the Missouri Pacific at the railroad's St. Louis headquarters.
He was later promoted to reairoad sales work with combined Freight Agent and Passenger Agent duties. A later promotion transferred him to Kansas City for two years of "on line" experience.
He then returned to Cleveland as General Agent in charge of all the railroad's regional operations in that area, a position he held until mandatory retirement at age 70.
