| We have been researching our ancestors, who are almost entirely from New Jersey, since 1997. The most common surnames in our family are Gilbert, Lesky, Lesko, Holmes, Charnega, Andrasz, Zegray, Bussell, Fogarty, Friberg, Hinte, Karg, Newcomb, Naylor, Wilson, Wells and Walters. Gilbert, Wells and Wilson all go back to Burlington County, NJ, in the early 1800's before I lose track of them. The Fogarty and Walters lines disappear into PA in the late 19th century. The Fribergs came to Philadelphia from Sweden. The Hintes came to Philadelphia from Germany. The Bussells came to New Jersey from England via Chicago. Lesky/Lesko, Charnega, Andrasz and Zegray all came from Europe in the early 20th or late 19th century. |
