I am researching the origins and family tree of the Gitschier Family. The best information I have available indicates that the Gitschiers originated in Baden-Wurttemberg, with some possible connections to Baden-Baden, Herrenberg, and the areas around Strimaringen, Saulgau, and Messkirch, as well as Heudorf bei Messkirch and Kreenheinstetten. There are very likely two or more groups of Gitschiers who emmigrated seperately to the United States of America in the late 1800's. Some of these emmigrees were descendants of Georg Gitschier (a Cabinette Maker) and Gertrud (Schneider) Gitschier, or of their son Silvan Gitschier (a Farmer) and daughter in-law Theresa (Amann) Gitschier, or Conrad Gitschier (wife unknown. All probably entered the U.S.A. via Ellis Island, New York, with Conrad's children (Herman is the only name known) settling in Newark, New Jersey and Silvan and Theresa's children (Adolph, Mathuas, and later Rosa)settling in the Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
The Gitschiers who initially settled in Newark, New Jersey, had children who moved north to Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine, although most settled in southern New Hampshire (Dover and Rochester) or northeastern Massachusetts Lowell, Dracut, and Lawrence). I believe that all of the Baden-Wurttemberg Gitschiers are probably relations, and I am trying to find the connections on our family tree as well as locating relations in Germany and the rest of Europe. I am descended from Conrad Gitschier, via his son Herman, via his son William (Born in Newark on December 28, 1894), via his son Robert Harold Gitschier, Senior (my father)of the northeastern Massachusetts family group.
I will happily share the scant information I have about my family and look forward to learning more or getting direction to sources of information which I can use to put my family tree together and unite of far flung family once again.
