I'm just beginning. I have a little information on Fortunato, also known as Frank, according to my mom who is the remaining child at 91 yrs. From her information, he was born in 1870. She is unsure of the year he came from Italy or where he came from in Italy. He married my grandmother, Maria Pinto, in 1906. She came from Italy to marry him. She was born in 1888 and lived in Benevento, Italy until she moved to the USA. They had four children: Assumpta (Susie) born in 1906, Carmelita (Camille, Millie, Cam) born in 1908, Annie Mary (Anna) born in 1909 and Margarita (Marge born in 1911. The family split up when the girls were small, with my grandmother moving to New York state, leaving my grandfather and the children behind. They were placed in separate orphanges. The oldest girls were placed in one institution. The spelling of the last named was Bavara due to a misunderstanding of pronunciation. The younger daughters were placed in another institution, the spelling of the last name I understand to be correct. Their father did take them out for outings and did visit them. He placed them in homes because he felt unable to properly care for four young ladies. He died in 1940 at Greystone Park Hospital. Maria Pinto, later became Mary Bellardino. She assumed the name of her common law husband. I have no record of a divorce. I do have a record of the marriage of Mary and Fortunato, a certificate of death for him, and naturalization certificate for Mary Bellardino. I would like any info on him. What I have is very limited. I would like his hometown in Italy and any other background. My grandmother had a brother in White Plains, NY. I believe his name was Thomas. She also had brothers, Jimmy or Joseph, Emilio, Tony and a sister, name unknown.
