Descendants of John Pogue

Generation No. 1

1. JOHN1 POGUE was born Abt. 1698. He married SARAH PREBLE. She was born in Baltimore County, Maryland.

Notes for J
OHN POGUE:
Unable to document if John was born in Maryland or his Father or Grandfather was the immigrant to the US. It is fairly certain that they came from Cavan County, Ireland in the late 1600's and made thier home in Maryland until the 1760's. From there Joseph Pogue moved his family to North Carolina. Welch Pogue, in his book, traces the family back to one Fulbert the Saxton who came to England from Normandy in about 1053 A.D. and particularyl to one robert De Pollock, Baron of Renfrewshire, Scotland in the year 1175 A.D.

It is believed that some Pogue family members moved from Renfrewshire, Scotland (where they had lived since 1175 A. D. From wht can be determined all of the Pogue's from Northern Ireland have decended from the Pogue family at Ballyneary in County Cavan, Ireland.

The Brother's Robert and John Pogue who came to Virginia in about 1739 were Nephews of our Pogue ancestor according to a letter written in 1890 quoting what Susanah Pogue told him. Susanah was born in about 1781 so her knowledge was probably fairly accurate.

Robert Pollack patented land in Somerset County, Maryland in 1687 and may be the father of the John Pogue born in 1698. The name has been spelled differently at various times, but there is no evidence that he is the father of John Pogue.
