Researching the Vibbard and Varee surnames.

I believe every Vibbard (and probably Vibbert, also) in the USA can be traced back to one John Viber, who was a sea captain who landed in Saybrook, Conn. He died in 1714 “in the prime of life”. That’s all the private data we have on him. He is also shown in the Jersey census.

The Vibbard’s moved to Hartford, then to Vermont, then to NY State (Galway and other places close-by). We have documented evidence that there were four Vibbard brothers in the American Revolution Jesse, Timothy Sr., David, and James. Oddly, two of them spelled it Vibbard and two spelled it Vibbert. Reason ? – easy, at least a couple of them probably couldn’t read or write. There also were several Vibbard’s in the Civil War.
