Col. William Brown (ca 1750-1832) served in the Revolutionary War and was at one time on Washington's staff. He was with Gen. Francis Marion some of the time.(William Brown *Y86* from "A Roster of Patriots Who Served with Francis Marion", found in 'Yearbook, City of Charleston, SC' by Evans Walker, Cogwell Co. 1893. Later Col. Brown went to Indiana and claimed his land grant where Greencastle now stands. However, he returned to NC and never came back to claim his land in Indiana. He had three sons, Pollard,Robert and Francis M. (Marion?).
