George GLOVER and Sophia Georgina FOWKE were born in Ireland, they emigrated to New Zealand circa 1884, where they spent the rest of their days at their home, Wakefield at Oriental Bay, near Wellington. They produced eleven children who all managed to live from between 18 to 92 years. Their sixth child Henry Lawrence GLOVER 1879-1971 was my paternal grandfather. There are many descendants of George and Sophia living mainly in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and Great Britain. I would like to know of any of their other descendants, please. I do know other members of this large family, but nobody else knows everyone. George GLOVER and Sophia FOWKE were married at Roscommon, Co. Roscommon, Ireland on 18 July 1870. The Marriage Certificate shows George's father as Francis GLOVER, and Sophia's father as Henry FOWKE. I have not managed to trace the GLOVER side any further back than Francis, and George's mother, Ellen nee DUFFIN. I've had more luck with Henry FOWKE, parish records at Bandon, Co. Cork, Ireland show his Baptism and those of his brother, Lawrence and sisters during the 1820s and 1830s, their parents are named as Samuel and Sophia FOWKE(S). I wish to find out more about Samuel and Sophia. There is a family legend that Sophia, (c.1848-1924) had Spanish ancestry, possibly on the FOWKE side, perhaps from her grandmother the previous Sophia. Sophia FOWKE's (c.1848-1924) mother was Jane ROBINSON (c.1822-1903), who later married a Joseph HARPER, they lived in the USA. After Joseph died Jane went to live at the New Zealand home of George and Sophia until her death in 1903. All I know of Jane ROBINSON's parents is that they were George ROBINSON and Mary PALMER, at this stage I can only assume that George ROBINSON and Mary PALMER were Irish. I did notice a number of ROBINSON and PALMER entries in the parish records at Bandon, in September 1999, but could make no specific connection.
