He was my great3-grandfather, and lived on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Born into a wealthy Eastern Shore family, he inherited the "Evergreen" plantation at Hack's Neck in Accomack County from his paternal grandmother, Margaret Hatton Kellam Beard, in 1846, but lost it after the Civil War, living his later years in Northampton Co., VA, where he is buried at Johnson's United Methodist Church.
