I am researching the following family names: Goforth; Harville; Tanner; Cummins; Lisman; Meisenheimer; Fitzsimons; Ward; Edmondson; Houghes; Williams; Mathews; Jones; Bethell; Poole; Lucas; Cowgil; Meeks or Meeke; Degre; Wood; Merrett and La Forge.
The Goforth name came from England via Aaron Sr. & Jr. through
Pennsylvania to New York about 1690-1730. The Fitzsimons name came from Ireland to Iowa 1825-1855.
My Great Grandfather was William Henry Harrison Tanner. He was
born on November 11, 1861 in Rutherford Co., North Carolina. His father was George Tanner also born in North Carolina. Family rumor has it that his mother was a full Native American of a North Carolina Cherokee tribe. The only possible connection in the 1898 Dawes Report that fits is Rachel Tanner born in North Carolina in 1826. I have verified records up to George Tanner. However, the leap to Rachel Tanner has been very ellusive. Any one with any helpful information to this or any other Goforth family member please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Richard A. Goforth
