Notes for GEORGE QUINN: Educated at St Jarlaths College and St. Mary's college Galway. Studied for the priesthood at the Irish College Parish where he was ordained in 1933. He spent the first two years of his preisthood in Falkirk Scotland beofre taking up duty in Galway. He served as Parish Priest for St Patrick's , Moycullen and Gort. He was a founder member and President of the Old Galway Society. He was also instrumental in establishing the museum at the Spanish Arch, Galway. Whilst in Gort he initiated the development of Coole Park and the renovation of Kilmacduagh Abbey. |

Notes for STANLEY QUINN: Stanley was charged and remanded in Custody on charges of sedition. He was arrested on 4 June and charged with two counts of sedition,following which he spent seven and a half months under maximum security conditions as a Category A remand prisioner in Brixton jail before being released at the Old Bailey on a suspended sentance in January. He was a member of the Northern Ireland Minority Defence Force which held meetings at Speakers Corner, Hyde Park and at other venues. Stanley hismelf never spoke at any of these meetings but on June 20 was chared with three counts undeer the Treason-Felony Act 1848, which has not been used since WWII and which arries a maximum sentance of life imprisionment. After unsucessful applications for bail he and 2 others appeared at the Old Bailey in January, pleading not guilty to all the charges, whereupon the treason charges were dropped. |
