Generation No. 1

1. JOHN5 BROWNING (FRANCIS4, FRANCIS3, JOHN2, THOMAS1) was born Abt. 1728 in Culpepper Co., VA1, and died November 18, 1803 in Greene Co., GA2. He married (1) ELIZABETH ?3 Bef. 17534, daughter of JAN DEMAREST and ELSIE SIMONS. She died Bef. June 1777 in Caswell Co., NC. He married (2) SUSANNAH TEAGUE Bef. May 10, 17925, daughter of WILLIAM TEAGUE and ISABELLA PENNINGTON. She was born January 03, 1728/29 in Cecil Co., MD, and died July 20, 1812 in Greene Co., GA.

Notes for J
OHN BROWNING:
THE FIRST WIFE OF JOHN BROWNING IS FROM EFB'S BOOK PUBLISHED IN 1909. BECAUSE OF MANY DISCREPANCIES IN THE BOOK AND NO SUBSTANTIATING EVIDENCE, HIS FIRST WIFE'S NAME, ETC. MAY BE IN ERROR. THERE IS NO DOUBT HE WAS MARRIED AT LEAST TWICE, BUT WHO THE FIRST WIFE WAS IS JUST NOT KNOWN.

ALSO, BECAUSE OF SO MANY DISCREPANCIES IN EFB'S BOOK, THE PARENTS OF THIS JOHN BROWNING ARE IN DOUBT AS WELL. IT IS EXTREMELY LIKELY THAT EFB MIXED TWO DIFFERENT JOHN BROWNING FAMILIES TOGETHER AND CAME UP WITH ONLY ONE FAMILY. A RADFORD BROWNING IN THOMAS COUNTY, GEORGIA IS THE LIKELY CANDIDATE AS TO THE ACTUAL "JOHN RADFORD BROWNING" LISTED AS SON OF FRANCIS AND ELIZABETH LLOYD BROWNING IN EFB'S BOOK THOUGH AGAIN THERE IS NO DEFINITIVE EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THIS CLAIM. WE CANNOT CLAIM WITH ANY CERTAINTY EXACTLY WHO WERE THIS JOHN BROWNING'S PARENTS.

From EF Browning's book, "He was one of 19 men enrolling in the Culpeper County, Virginia infantry in March of 1756 to fight in the French and Indian Wars. He was later a soldier in the Revolutionary War and was found on the Culpeper County, Virginia tax list from 1783 to 1787. In 1803 his will was recorded in Green County, Georgia."

EFB makes no mention of the fact that this John Browning was married to Susannah Teague Boring, widow of Joseph Boring of Caswell County, NC, and misses many of John's children named in his will.

Is refered to in his father's estate papers as Capt. John Browning (according to EFB).

Southern Biographies and Genealogies, 1500s-1940s (likely source for some of this information is EFB's book):

JOHN BROWNING (Francis.) m. Miss Demorest, and had: 1. James, m. Miss Hickman, sister of Gen. Hickman, and went to Ky; 2. Joshua, m. Ann Scott, and went to Ky. He was the father of Thomas Browning, m. Elizabeth Lewright, who was the father of Robert Lewright Browning, Lieut. in the U. S. Navy, was drowned in Trinidad bay, and was the father of Chas. H. Browning, the founder of the order of "Runnemede," and author of "Magna Charta Barons, and their Descendants;" 3. Francis went to Russell county, Va., as did his brother, Enos.
