* The Goldstein & Krolik Roots*

Updated November 6, 2008

This is the genealogy of our ancestors, all of whom originate from the Ukraine, Belarus, Moldovia and Poland in the Russian Empire. Much more family information can be found at www.ourfamilyroots.net.

My (Michael Goldstein) roots are from Ukraine, Molovia and Belarus while Leah's are from the Warsaw Province of Poland.

My mother's (Esther Esterson Goldstein) maternal kin are listed in the "Families of Moishe Yehuda Leib Stupak and Fivish Ortenberg" report which stretches back to Fivish Ortenberg born (circa 1786) in Ruzhin, Ukraine and Moshe Yehuda Leib Stupak (circa 1785) of Solovivka,(adjacent Brusilov)Ukraine.

The Ortenberg & Stupak families lived in the Kiyev,Ukraine province towns of Ruzhin, Radomyshl,Brusilov, Solovivka, and Zhitomer before migrating to Kiyev and Odessa. Additional surnames include Huberman Kugelmass, Kofsky, Novick, Olin, Olivensky, Ozier, and Pekelis. Some Ortenbergs changed Ortenberg to Berger in the USA. Additionally David Stupak a son Moishe Leib Stupak took on his brother-in-law Michael Ortenberg's family name in about 1880 as he fled Ruzhin to the Austro Hungarian Empire. Some Ortenberg and Stupak family remain in Ukraine but most are in Canada, the USA, Mexico, Argentina and Israel. I am not certain of the origins of my maternal grandfather Moishe Pekelis but a recent review of a family document leads me to believe that he was from Lapy, a Polish town, in the vicinity of Bialystock.

My mother's paternal Kin (Motel Esterson and his ancestors) stem from the Kobryn and Brest Letovsk areas of Belarus. Motel's father, Pessach Esterson and mother Bashe Gildengersh (Daughter of Israel Moishe Gildengersh and Frayda Miller) were from there and Bialystock. Esterson and Gildengers descendants and kin include the descendants of Max & Goldie Linetsky (Linet) in the USA & Holland, Bezruk and Guildenguers in Argentina and New Jersey. Israel Moishe's and Frayda's son David Gildengersh (or Gildenharsh) migrated to London where he died in 1945 where most of his descendants still live. Motel Esterson's brother Guillermo (William) Esterzon's descendants are in Argentina. The kin are found "Esterson, Gildengers and Pekelis Families" report.

"ABRAHAM GOLDSTEIN AND CHAIM MOSHKEVITCH DESCENDANTS REPORT" (located in the Moshkevitch & Goldstein Book) traces my father Simeon Goldstein's paternal and maternal family from their Ukrainian and Bessarabian beginnings. Simeon's mother Celia Moshkevitch was born in Yekaterinoslav, Ukraine in 1889. Celia's Manusoff roots are also included. Simeon's father Abraham Haim Goldstein was from Bessarabia but we have only sketchy details of his life before Canada and no details of his family. Both families immigrated to Toronto, Canada in about 1900. Family members include Goldstein; Walerstein, Zwirek, Frankel, Matenko, Levy, Sable, Moskoff and members live in Canada, USA and Israel. Our information on this branch is in "Families of Abraham Goldstein and Chaim Moshkevitch"

Leah's father, Chaim Krolik, was born in the Praga district of Warsaw. Chaim's paternal grandfather Chaim David Krolik was born in Parisov, Poland in the mid 1800's. Haim Krolik's mother Chaya Zalcman was born in the late 1800's in Minsk Mazowiecki Poland. Family members live in Canada, Israel and France. My mother in law, Toby (Bayle) Wiernik, her parents and grandparents were born in Pultusk Poland about 60 KM from Warsaw. She was an only child and immigrated to Canada with her husband Chaim after the Second World War. She had four paternal aunts and uncles of whom two aunts immigrated to the US at the end of the 19th century, an uncle who died young and and uncle who together with part of his family perished in the Holocaust. Of her maternal family (the Koren's)some perished in the Holocaust and some immigrated to Israel. Krolik, Wiernik, Zalcman and Koren Descendants live in Canada, USA, Israel, Mexico and Argen
