Notes for Joyce Agatha Diaz: August 10. 2001 Dedicated to my dear aunt Joyce, from David Today, on this very sad occasion, I am called upon to speak about and on behalf of my Aunt Joyce, who, since my childhood, has been very special in my life. To her very last days, she was a pillar of strength and support for everyone around her. With her smiles, words of comfort and encouragement, she truly gave of herself - undoubtedly the best gift anyone could ever give. She was a woman of extraordinary character, and never, in all the years I have known here, did I ever once hear her make a derogatory statement about another human being. By her example, she taught us the important lesson of living life always with a positive outlook, to search for the rainbow after the storm. Even during these last few months when we have all known how much she was suffering, she continued to smile and to be a joy to be near to - never a word of complaint or self pity. I will always remember Aunt Joyce with immense Love. I feel honored that I was blessed with the opportunity to be close to her in life. I know that I am a better person for having known her and I will treasure her love for the rest of my life. Now she is finally at peace. The pain is no more… but her Love lives on in my heart and I am sure, in all your hearts as well. We will all miss her, but as the philosopher and prophet, Khalil Gibran, so aptly put it: "And what is to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered." Aunt Joyce is now with God. Let us not mourn her passing, but instead let us celebrate her Life, and the joy she brought to all of us.
