This page is dedicated to my my dad, Bob Goodemote, and my grandparents, Cecil Goodemote and Mary Linsler Goodemote of Batavia, New York. Their gentleness, goodness and quiet grace, lives on in all who knew them and loved them.
I am researching the GOODEMOTES and related families. I am the 5th great grandson of Baltus/Baltes/Balthasar GOEDEMOET of Kinderhook, NY, and 4th great grandson of Johannes (John) GOEDEMOET (Goodemote).
John, son of Johannes moved to the wilderness of western New York from Columbia County, NY in 1816. With him were his parents, Johannes and Christina Schultes GOODEMOTE and John nine siblings and their families. They settled land near the Cattaraugus Creek, near today's border between Cattaraugus and Erie counties.
We now know that all the Goodemotes from New York state in the mid-1700s are related. This likely includes all persons in the United States carrying the Goodemote name. This also includes families with the variant spellings -- Goodamote, Goodremote, Goodermote and Goodamoot.
I have built upon the research of others who have researched the Goodemote family. I owe a great debt to Carrie Mills Dudley and the late Janet Abbey Engel, who published "The Goodemotes of Western NY." Thanks also goes to the Cattaraugus County GenWeb page, Bill Anspach, the late Don Gentner (his incredible web page is still available on the web), Steve Goodermote, Cy Goodremote, Joan Thom, Candi Zizek, Marian Goodemote Lamka and Doris Goodemote Boyce. These are just some of the people who provided me with invaluable help and information.
There are more than 6,000 names in my data base, many from Cattaraugus and Erie (NY) Counties. I am interested in the KRUSE, MURPHY, HEMSTREET, and SHULTES families, all of whom settled in Western New York circa 1820. Many came from eastern New York, particularly Columbia County. I an interested in building information on the Goodemotes who remained in eastern New York in the early 1800s. There is no information on this site about them, but I hope to expand my research into this branch of the family. I am also interested in the LINSLER family from New York state.
If you have information regarding the GOODEMOTES/GOEDEMOETS/GOODERMOTES/GOODREMOTES OR GOODAMOTES or are researching a related line, please contact me. This website contains only some of the information I have. Feel free to e-mail me to request information in my data base.
My research and my life has been enriched by meeting long lost cousins and people who have an interest in these families. Drop me an e-mail and introduce yourself; I'd love to hear from you. Help me develop and preserve the history of this family!
All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost. The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
