Matthew Orr came from Scotland and settled in the State of New York. He was a stone cutter by trade. He married Mary Eagles, became wealthy and moved to Coshocton, Ohio. They lived there most of their lives. (Ref: "History of Clinton County, IN")

Page 3 census in Coshocton County, Ohio listed Matthew and Mary having 10 children, the youngest or next to the youngest was their son Matthew.

This story is told by Dale Orr, the son of John Orr to Dorsey Verd Orr.

It is told that Matthew Orr of New York State was diving in deep water and when he came up he died of cramps.

Matthew and Mary were living in Dutchess County, New York in 1775. Later they moved to Newark Township, Essex County, New Jersey and still later to Coshocton County, Ohio.

There is a Mathew Orr in the NY 1790 Census Index living in Columbia Cnty.

GENEALOGY.COM:
According to 1810 NJ Census Index, Mathew was living in Newark Twp until 1811 (according to Tax List). Also, there was a Samuel Orr in that Twp around the same times.

Mathew was in Coshocton County, Ohio by the 1820 OH Census.

Cumming for satisfying military obligations. Lot further described as the N 1/2 of Lot #9. Lot nine adjoins Thomas Wiggins line. Wittness: Robert Cumming and John Ma(N)uthony. Signed by J. N. In 1810 Muskingum Co included present day Coshocton Co., and parts of present day Holmes, Perry and Morgan Co., OH.\\
