Notes for Chester Merle Steinhaus:
Chester joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. in June, 1941.He served for four years during World War II and then joined the Army Active Reserves.
He came from Nebraska to California in 1946 and joined his brother, Gilbert, in operating a service station on Stockton Blvd. across from the old State Fair Grounds.
A couple of years later, Chester, his father and brother opened Steinhous Auto Electric in a building they bought at 3417 2nd Avenue.They formed a partnership with Gilbert owning 40%, Walter, 30%, and Chester, 30%.When Walter retired in 1955, Chester bought a one-half partnership and called his half "Steinhaus Generator Service."By 1980, both Chester and his brother were retired and Gilbert's son rented the big shop and sold security systems.
Chester retired from the Army Reserves in 1963.
