RANCIS EWART:
According to the reprinted in Carol King Heckman's book, "Chronicles of the Ewart's," provided by Jim Spickard: "Frank Ewart and his brothers, Robert and Ralph, are said to have emigrated from Ireland to Greene Co., Pennsylvania, about the time of the Revolutionary War. No more is known of Ralph; Robert moved to Knox County, Ohio, about 1830: and Frank removed to Grandview, Washington County, Ohio, before 1815. He was killed by Indians in 1817 when returning to Greene County and was buried at Mount Morris Greene County. Frank Ewart married Elizabeth Ewart, his cousin, they had four daughters, and a son, Robert Kells Ewart."

They also adopted a son Thomas (Samuel) West.

Also in Heckman book, the following was supposedly written by Thomas Ewart in his scrapbook: "Francis Ewart, our ancestor, lived in the city of Dublin and had large stills exempt from duty in 1768 and 1769. Francis Ewart came to Philadelphia just before the Rev. War. Afterwards, his three brothers, Ralph, Thomas and Robert came over after the Rev. War. One sister came over and married a Wilson and lived in Belmount County. Thomas and Ralph settled four mile below Ten Mile in Greene County, Pennsylvania, and died there. Robert died at Mount Vernon, Ohio, at the age of 90.

Francis Ewart, after coming to Philadelphia, moved family to Carlisle, Pennsylvania, near Harrisburg. Got acquainted with the Wests--
lived in the same house on the waters of Juniata, Greene County, Pennsylvania and then at the Neomew Aquabela at Ten Mile, a few miles from Waynesburg. He then went to Wetzel County, West Virginia where Williams lived and bought land and went back to Ten Mile, and died of a fever, the sickly season while living on Cree Place. Great Grandma, Elizabeth Ewart, the came down in 1797 to Wetzel County, West Virginia and died there. Elizabeth Ewart from County Armagh. Francis not raised in Dublic Ann but County Inness Kilten."

From the Heckman book, and Ancestral Chart done for Willian Dana Ewart written in the late 1880's or early 1890's, states:
"His Great Grandfather, Francis Ewart, born in Ireland, Sailed from Belfast in 1774 --- landed in Philadelphia, settled near Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Moved to Carmichael, Greene County, Pennsylvania and died there about 1802.
Buried near Glades church there."

Bought farm there and died as above. Buried in Williams Cemetery.

Heckmansays Elizabeth's tombstone reads, "Elizabeth, wife of Francis Ewart, 1746 - 1815"

Heckman, from a note sent to her from Vida Sharp: Recorded in book 5, page 259, Book of Deeds, County Clerk's Office in Wheeling, West Virginia: "In 1803 Ohio County, Virginia, Elizabeth Ewart granted 100 acres -- Fishing Creek Flats -- Jeremiah Williams, et. al." Vida further says, "Elizabeth Ewart paid $100 for 100 acres on Fishing Creek Flats -- apparently back from the river -- but not as far south as the 400 acres bought by Robert Ewart in 1815."

The US Census infromation:
The 1840 US Census, Ohio, Knox Co., Morgan Township, page 254, shows: Ann with her husband, Robert Ewart and two of their children.

From "Encyclopedia of American Family Names", page 315: Hogg, origin: English, Irish,, Scottish. English, Scottish: derived from the Middle English word "hog", meaning pigs. The name was given to those who worked as swineherds, and it may have been given to those who were thought to look like pigs. It is notable that a pig in the Middle Ages was not necessarily considered unclean, and the nickname, therefore, made no reference to tidiness. Irish, Scottish: derived from the Gaelic name Mac an Bhfabh, which means "son of the hog".

Ann died at the home of son Robert Jr.
