He married (1) Martha Melvina Cowart on 1860 in Georgia, daughter of Robert Cowart and Amelia McBrayer. He married (2) Lucinda Anne Watson on December 26, 1876 in Gravette, Benton County, Arkansas, daughter of Abraham Watson and Matilda Hobbs.

Name also spelled Isham. He supposedly came home during war at planting time and disguised himself as a woman dressed in dress and bonnet.
