From the book, Huguenot Emigration to Virginia and to the Settlement at Manakin-Town, by R. A. Brock, Richmond, VA: VA Historical Society, 1886, page 97, we find the birth of Benjamin Goss, Sr. recorded:"The 2d 8ber, 1742, was born Binjamen Joss, son of Jamse Joss and of Mariane, his wife."(Note:Benjamin Goss was born in 1742 not 1743 as many genealogists report.His birth was taken from the record book in King William Parish, Manakin-Town, Goochland Co., VA.The record book was written in French and translated into English.Misspellings/mistranslations occurred.Joss should be Goss.)
In Henry William Clark's book, Genealogies of the Davis and Goss Families in Two Parts, we find this entry: John Preston Goss, Sr. (1847-?), of Richmond, VA and who made the genealogy of the Goss family a study for many years said: "I heard my father, John W. Goss, grandson of Benjamin, Sr., say that Benjamin was a son by the second marriage of his father, and that he, Benjamin, had two half-brothers older than himself that went to North Carolina.....I will mention that my father said his great grandfather, the father of Benjamin, Sr., died in England, having gone there to attend to some business, sickened and died there." Benjamin Goss, Sr. was a Colonial Virginia planter in Goochland, Albemarle, and Buckingham counties; he was 5ft. 8 1/2 in. tall.
In 1761, when he was 20 years old,he enlisted, from Buckingham Co., Virginia, in Major Andrew Lewis' Company and served four months in the French and Indian War in Colonel William Byrd's Regiment, 2d Virginia. His wife's father, James Hamilton was a cousin of Alexander Hamilton (1757-1804), American statesman and the first Secretary of the Treasury, 1789-97, who was killed in a duel with Aaron Burr.

Jonathan Davis and his son William, fought together in the American Revolution in 1765, under General Marquis de LaFayette; both were present at the surrender of British general and statesman Marquis Cornwallis, at Yorktown, Virginia, October 19, 1781.
Jonathan owned lands in both Orange County and Culpepper County, Virginia.The Jonathan Davis family moved to Wilkes County, Georgia about 1803.
