Gothard (son of William Gothard / Gotthard and Agnes Cooper)218, 219 was born Abt. 1803 in Smith's Crossing, Rhea Co, TN220, and died March 1870 in Rhea County, Tennessee at the home of his daughter, Elizabeth220.He married Louisa Taylor on December 28, 1848 in Smith's Crossing, Rhea Co, TN220, daughter of Robert Taylor and Catherine "Katie" Sevier.

The story goes: Larkin George (1) was in the Mexican War and stationed in San Augustine Cty., TX. When he mustered out, he went back to Rhea Cty., TN and married Elizabeth Butler, daughter of Hampton and Sallie Majors Butler. In 1849, Larkin and Elizabeth and all the Butlers got on a flat boat out of Dayton, TN (old Blyth's landing) and floated down the TN River and then went overland back to San Augustine Cty.,TX. Larkin had land in what is now the Angelina Forest. He died of pneumonia in 1870 (Mortality Schedule, 1870, Texas) and Elizabeth moved to Henderson Cty., TX. From there the children scattered. John to Limestone Cty., Joseph to Tarrant Cty, James William to Kaufman Cty, etc. Larkin(1) never lived in Groesbeck

He was born 6 Apr. 1807 when the family was still in Pendleton, SC. The Gothard's were at Rhea Co. prior to moving the HC [Hamilton County]. He married (1830) Louise Taylor, born 10 Feb 1809 and died 1872 in Rhea. He farmed and tended a grist mill at Soddy. By 1860, however, Larkin and Louisa had moved back to Rhea where he died at home of dau. Elizabeth. According to his son Augustus [Henry], Gothard was 70 when he rode with Rucker's Legion.
From the Free Press: "Larkin married Louisa Taylor, the daughter of Robert Taylor and Catherine Sevier. Larkin was at Sale Creek, but had returned to Rhea County by the time of the Civil War. Their children were Mary who married S.D. Fraley, Nancy who married James Benson, Augustus Henry "Henry" and Betty who married Jake Miller. Both Henry Gothard and his father, Larkin, went with the Confederacy. But Henry's brother-in-law, James Benson, chose the Northern side. Most of the other Gothards opted for the Union. The brothers, William B. and Larkin G. fought with the Sixth [Infantry], CSA. He had entered, along with Elias at Knoxville on Aug. 5, 1861."

Larkin George Gothard, son of George and Nancy (Carter) Gothard was born 1825 in Dayton, Rhea Cty., TN. He died in 1870 (pneumonia). He served in the Mexican War in San Augustine Cty., TX. He liked the area so much that when his time was up, he returned to Rhea Cty., TN and married Elizabeth Butler, daughter of Hampton and Sallie (Moyers/Majors?) Butler and both families moved to San Augustine Cty, TX . They were there by the 1850 Census. Larkin and Elizabeth's children were:

We the undersigned subscribers agree and promise to pay J.A.N. Patterson for services as a teacher of a school to be opened at Old Sale Creek Academy on Monday, the 19th of September, 1870, for the term of 5 months according to the following rates of tuition.

Natural philosphy, algebra $9.00
Geormetry, trigonometry and surveying, $10.00.
Terms - one half of the middle of the session, the other at the expiration of the term.
