The earliest Record found for the MOODY'S in Georgia are these land grants.

MOODIE, JOHN - Town Lot #21, Brunswick; Granted December 1, 1772 Grant Book L, Page 106.

MOODIE, JOHN - Wharf Lot #21, Brunswick; Granted January 19, 1773 Grant Book L, Page 153.

MOODIE, ROBERT - Town Lot #98, Brunswick; Granted December 1, 1772 Grant Book L, Page 107.

MOODIE, THOMAS - 500 Acres, St. Mary Parish; Granted January 6, 1767,
Grant Book F, Page 29.
Bounded on the Southwest by the Satilla River, North by lands surveyed for Charles West, Southeast by lands surveyed for Hugh Burns. Tract was heretofore ordered to and surveyed for William Jones.

MOODIE, THOMAS - 500 Acres, St. Mary Parish; Surveyed May 7th or 9th 1768; Plat Book C, Pages 222 and 284; Granted January 7, 1772; Grant Book I, Page 500. Bounded on the Southwest by St. Marys River, Southeast by land laid out for Ephraim Gilbert.

MOODIE, THOMAS - Town Lot #148, Brunswick; Granted December 1, 1772; Grant Book L, Page 108.

These listings are possibly for the Father of our MOODY connection, Thomas MOODY. It is generally thought or believed that Thomas MOODY was the father of; ISAAC, SOLOMON, JEREMIAH, THOMAS AND JESSE MOODY. These are the five brothers who settled in South Georgia and Florida.

Jesse MOODY gives his place of birth on the Census Records as being in South Carolina. There were, and still are, numerous MOODIES in South Carolina.

November 1756.

Read a petition of Thomas MOODIE praying for a lot in Hardwicke known by number 154. Resolved that on condition only that the Petitioner doth take out a grant for the said lot within seven months from this date and that he doth also register the said grant in the Registrars Office of this Providence within six months from the date thereof then the prayer of his said petition is granted.

The Governor signed the following grants laid out since his arrival. December 1756 Thomas MOODIE a Town Lot Number 154 in Hardwicke.

Thomas MOODIE, Hugh POLSON, and John SIMPSON, Esqrs., being appointed Justices of the Peace for this Providence, namely the said Thomas MOODIE for the Parish of Christ Church, the said Hugh POLSON for th Parish of St. James, and the said John SIMPSON for the Parish of St. Phillip. It is ordered that the Clerk of the Crown and Peace in whose office the said commission is lodged do insert their names accordingly.
August 1765.

The Colonial Records of the State Of Georgia; Allen Candler; Vol. IX; Page 671; November 1766.

Read a Petition of Thomas MOODIE setting forth that he was desirous to obtain land in this Providence having had none yet granted him, and having a family consisting of seven children and a Negro, therefore praying for five hundred acres on Great Satilla near land there laid out for Edward Bernard.

Resolved that on condition only that the Petitioner doth take out a grant for the said land within seven months from this date, and that he doth also register the said grant in the Registrars Office of the said Providence within six months from the date thereof that his Majesty may not be defrauded of his quit rents the prayer of the said Petition is Granted.

Read a Petition of Thomas MOODIE setting forth that he had five hundred acres ordered him at the last board which he desired to resign and obtain land in lieu thereof, therefore praying for in lieu of the said five hundred acres, five hundred acres on Satilla River in St. Mary's Parish being a tract heretofore ordered William Jones the fiat whereof was laying in the Secretary's Office elapsed ever since the 5th October 1765.

Resolved that on condition only that the Petitioner doth take out a grant for the said land within two months from this date (agreeable to an order of council in that case lately made) and that he doth also register the said grant in the Registrar's Office of the said Providence within six months from the date thereof that his Majesty may not be defrauded of his quit rents the prayer of the said Petition is granted.

Read a Petition of Ann MOODIE, setting forth that she obtained his Majesty's grant for two hundred acres of land but the time for registering the same in the Registrar's Office was elapsed therefore praying that she might obtain an order to the Register to enter the said grant in his office notwithstanding the lapse of time.

Resolved that the Prayer of the said Petition is granted and that the Register of Grants do enter the said Grant on record accordingly.

Read a petition of Thomas MOODIE, setting forth that he was settled in the Providence and was desirous of improving a lot in the town of Savannah, therefore praying for Lot Number Nine in the Second Tithing Anson Ward.

Resolved that on condition only that the Petitioner doth take out a Grant for the said lot within seven months from this date, and that he doth also register the said Grant in the Registrar's Office of the said Providence within six months from the date thereof the Prayer of the said Petition is Granted.

New Commission of the Peace Ordered:

THOMAS MOODIE JUSTICE FOR THE PARISH OF CHRIST CHURCH.

The Colonial Records of the State of Georgia; Allen Candler; Vol. XII; Pages 137-138. December 1771.

Read a Petition of Thomas MOODIE setting forth that some time since he had ordered him five hundred acres of land in St. Mary's Parish, which had been surveyed and a plan thereof returned into the Surveyor General's Office but the time was elapsed in which a Grant for the same should have passed. Therefore praying that notwithstanding, the lapse of time he might be permitted to take out his Majesty's Grant for the said land and that the Surveyor General might be ordered to prepare and certify a plan thereof for that purpose.

Resolved that on condition and Prayer of the said Petition is Granted.

Ref: Hinton's Map of Georgia 1779. Hardwicke was located South of Savannah on the North Side of the Great Ogechee River. Hardwicke was North of Sunbury.
