- Captain James Hayter Jackson (4 KB)
James, born 1800 in Putney is reputed to be one of the first 50 settlers in New Zealand, arriving with Jacky Guard in the early 1820's. He spent his early years on Kapiti Island, living with the famous Maori Chief, Te Rauparaha, prior to setting up his own whaling station in Jackson's Bay (Te Awaiti), Tory Channel, Marlborough, New Zealand
