Updated: April, 2004 I've just updated this page with new contact information, having been remiss in having let it sit for so long while changes occurred. For this I have William Small, my second cousin once removed to thank. This home page is to provide and gather information on my family. My family includes surnames like Graf, Dyer, Denn, Schlarmann, McCann, Pier, Rink, Gunkel, Crosby, Bailey, Howe and Small. I am hopeful that this site will be visited by distant family as well as by those nearer. In any event, I am particularly interested in the exchange of information to extend the research of others and to extend the research I've compiled on this family. I should mention that I began this research in January 1998 and currently I have 3,481 individuals included dating back to a birth date of 1335! I would characterize the means by which I have arrived at this point as the results of a combination of luck (where others before have compiled massive amounts of work) and asking relatives what they know. I will have reached the point where advances will be made slowly and will result from painstaking original research. (Won't that be fun!) I should take a moment to acknowledge three invaluable sources of information. First, Neil Crosby (my fifth cousin, twice removed) provided all the information on the Crosby branch. A descendent report is accessible through this page (see below left). Note the wonderful detail to the notes. Second, and no less detailed, is information collected by Dorothy Tyson and William Passauer (the latter, my 7th cousin) on the Pier family. Last, and not least are contributions from my long lost second cousin once removed, William Small and his local family. I'm considering including a descendant report on that family but it's over 220 pages long so I'm reluctant to include it at this moment. If you're interested in more information than you see in the attached tree* (see below, left in the Reports Section- just click on the "Jeffrey D. Graf InterneTree") please e-mail me and I'm only too happy to help where I can. If you think you have information that might help me, please contact me. Some roots are very well documented though, some are woefully disappointing. Right now I have major roadblocks along two major roots of interest and any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated. The areas of special interest include: * Ancestors of John Dyer, Jr. (b: 7/20/1832, E. Cambridge (?), MA, d: 10/30/1909) and his wife, Mary Dalzell (b: abt.1833). They lived most of their lives in Chicago and were associated with the Swedenborgian church. I know that many Dyers live in Chicago and that many Dyers were from New England, but I have been unable to establish links to either set of families. * Ancestors of John J. Denn (b: 10/14/1867, Albany, NY) and his wife, Margaret Schlarmann, also from Albany (b: 5/13/1870). The parents of each of these people were immigrants from Ireland and Germany, respectively. The Graf side of the family is well documented but murky owing to the absence of key paternal linkages. Members of my family would love the opportunity for union. Unfortunately, due to historical circumstances, little is known of that side of the family except that someone has compiled significant genealogical information. I can only conclude that this information has been compiled in other than Family Tree Maker format, as my on-line searches to date have been fruitless. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. The Graf side of the family is generally from Milwaukee, WI. I look forward to any assistance you can provide to me and am only too happy to assist you in your efforts. Sincerely, Jeffrey Dyer Graf |
