Notes for C
ATHERINE BLANCHAN:
On June 10, 1663 Hurley and part of Kingston were burned by the
Indians and Catherine DuBoi s and three of her children, including
Sarah were among those carried away captive. Mrs. DuB ois was tied to
a stake to be burned alive, at which point she began singing from the
psalms. This somehow impressed her captives who decided not to put
her to death. She and her three children were alive three mon ths
later when an expedition under captain Crieger recovered the captives,
surprizing the Ind ians at their fort, near Hogabergh, in Shawangunk.
