The Wallace F. Gray Family Home PageUpdated September 5, 2000 |

| My name is Wallace Firman Gray. I am descended from the GRAY family of Sambro, Nova Scotia and the PUBLICOVER family of Lunenburg, Canada (also known as BUBICKHOFFER and various spellings) on my father’s side; and the BUNGARD and MADSEN families of Denmark on my mother’s side. GRAY. I have successfully traced back my line as follows: Wallace Firman Gray (b. 1925)>Firman Carleton Gray (b. 1897)>Joseph Albert Gray (b. 1858)>Josiah Gray (b. 1813.) Beyond that there are some questions. It would appear that Josiah’s father was William Gray and his father was William Gray. According to my grandfather, the Grays were fishermen coming from Gloucester, Massachusetts, around 1620 or after, having originated in England. According to this version they were Tories in 1775; and in 1800, remaining British subjects, they left for Canada. My grandfather told me that the Grays were United Empire Loyalists. Another source has William Gray coming from England as a staff member of Gov. Edward Cornwallis in 1749 and settling in Halifax. There are some other versions as well. PUBLICOVER, BUNGARD, MADSEN. I have extensive information on these families. I wish to share what information I have and will be placing reports on this site and detailed information on all these families as well as the MCNABB and LUNDQUIST families (from my wife, Frances McNabb Gray) on my geocities web site. Also, you may e-mail me for questions, clarification, sharing, etc. |
