E. EUGENE RUST, PIONEER BUILDER, DIES AT AGE 92

Ellicottville, Jan. 27 E. Eugene Rust, 92, one of the oldest residents of this community and a pioneer builder of many of the brick business blocks and the homes here, died Tuesday morning at 1:30 at the family home, 9 Elizabeth St.

Born on a farm on Bryant Hill, Town of Ellicottville, Mr. Rust had been a lifelong resident of this community. He learned the wood cabinet trade as a young man and later engaged in brick and lumber manufacture, establishing a mill on Elizabeth Street, now operated by his son-in-law, N. T. Olin.

Mr. Rust took an active interest in civic, social and community affairs. He was a member of the town band for years and also of the Presbyterian Church.

It was while he was associated with his late brother, Charles C. Rust, that they made and laid the brick for the Fitzpatrick and Weller Block at the corner of Washinton and Monroe Streets and also for the Hughey Block on Washington Street and his old family home on Elizabeth Street. They also built a number of frame homes here. They operated their own brickyard and saw mill. His brother died two years ago at 93 and his wife died nine years ago.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. N. T. Olin of this village: three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
