Ancestors of Fay Perry Greene, Jr. M.D.

      34. George David "Jurry" Putman, born Abt. 1757 in New York; died March 14, 1829 in Sardinia, Erie, New York (Source: Gravestone in Sardenia, Erie Co. New York.). He was the son of 68. David Putman and 69. Elizabeth (Leer) Lehr. He married 35. Mary Polly Ferguson May 23, 1779 in Caughnawaga (Fonda), New York (Source: Records of the Dutch Reformed Church of Caughnawaga..).

      35. Mary Polly Ferguson, born Abt. 1758 (Source: Gravestone in Sardenia, Erie Co. New York.); died 1847 in Sardinia, Erie, New York. She was the daughter of 70. William Ferguson and 71. Mrs. Ferguson.

Notes for George David "Jurry" Putman:
The name of George Putman varies from Putnam to Putman, depending on the record. His gravestone states "Putman".
------------------------------------------------------
From notes of George provided by Warren T. Putman, Rio LInda, CA.:

Marriage: IGI; LDS; Sept., 1981; p 12,903.

Note: This record lists his name as Jurry. [W.T.P.]

!McConville, H.; Unpublished Ms.; 1985; p ; Schenectady Historical.

IGI; LDS; Sept., 1981; p 12,896

George Putman appears to be the same man as "Jurry" D. Putman, who married Maria Forks in 1779 (DRC). Maria is the same person as Maritje, or Mary Polly, Ferguson.. (W.T. Putman, Researcher of the Dutch Putman Family) Also noted by Mark Putman, author of "the Putman Family". Other records of various Dutch families also show the name "Jurry" as being the equivalent of the American name of George. It is well documented that the name "Jurry" in Dutch is translated in English as "George".

------------------------------------------------------------
From the Research of Mark Putman, based on Records in Fonda, Montgomery County, New York:
"Jurry Potman was admitted to the Stone Arabia Church September 17, 1774, the same day David Putman, Jr. and Lodewyck Putman were admitted. David Jr. and Lodewyck were sons of David Arentse Putman.

Note by Laura Greene: It appears that George had a son named George Jr.,: A George Jr. was enumerated in the 1820 census records, and the following appeared in the NY genealogical journal of Tree Talks:
Geo Putnam Jr, Cazenovia. "List of fines imposed on delinquents of the 35th Brigade of Infantry of the Militia of the State of NY, composed of the 129th, 65th, 143rd, and 74th Reg in the County of Madison, at a Court Martial of which Major Joseph Bruce was President; Tree Talks, v23 #1, Mar
1983 Madison, Co., NY. (Record sent by Pam Green Duimstra) If George D. Putman Sr. 's middle name was in fact David, as is suspected, than this George Jr.'s middle name would also have been David, and is perhaps the same man currently being identified as David Putman, born 1785.
