I graduated from Charleston Catholic High School in 1964.I received my Bachelor of Science in Business Management from West Virginia Institute of Technology in 1972.Prior to getting my degree I served four years in the US Army as a Warrant Officer and helicopter pilot and spent most of 1968 in Viet Nam.
After receiving my degree, I worked for the WV Dept. of Health for about three years as a "grants administrator".
A love of flying prompted a return to helicopters in 1976.I flew for various coal companies and the W. Va. National Guard until 1986 when I became the Chief Pilot for the S.W.A.T. force at the Savannah River Site nuclear weapons facility.In November, 2000, I was promoted to Aviation Manager.In 2004 I grew weary of the bureaucracy and the pressure of management and returned to the cockpit as a pilot.
In 1971 I married the former Frankie Daniels of Fayetteville, NC, and we have three children—Alyce, born in September of 1975; Damian born in April of 1977; and Nicholas born in July of 1987.Frankie is a church pianist and gives private lessons in our home.Together, we also bring high school foreign exchange students to our home for the school year.
I enjoy playing softball, and I like watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Washington Redskins.My other interests include singing in my church choir and in a Barbershop Quartet.
I am proudest of my service in Viet Nam, and quitting smoking after 27 years--you have to have been through it to appreciate it.I am also very proud of my daughter Alyce, who graduated from Georgia Tech in '98.
I'm a political conservative, just to the right of Attila-the-Hun.In fact the people that annoy me the most are those social engineers who believe they should direct and control everyone's life for them.
I most admire the people who make themselves the very best they can be--in whatever it is they do.The things that annoy me the most are "Political Correctness" and any phrase that begins with "They say ..." or "They said ..."--tell me who said it!
