This is what she told me: "JOHN HAGUE md SARAH COLLINS at Old Swedes Church May 17, 1774." 1"WILLIAM HAGUE md RUTH MENDENHALL at Old Swedes Church May 16, 1780." and Pat Mandeville sent a xerox copy of thesame two pages from" the Records of Holy Trinity Old Swedes Church of Wilmington, Delaware that have the above data exactly--on it. "JOHN HAGUE md SARAH COLLINS at Old Swedes Church May 17, 1774." A volunteer researcher for Old Swede's Church Foundation wrote Bill Potts in Feb 1992: "There is serious dought these (Hague) familes were members of Old Swedes, as there are no records of baptism of children by the name HAGUE. There are several mgs under the name of Mendenhall, but again this does not mean membership in the church. The Mendenhalls were a large prominent QUAKER FAMILY in this area and of southeastern PA. When someone md "Out of meeting" they would go to the nearest - or furthest- church to be married. Since there were not many churches in this area at the time, MANY QUAKERS were md at Old Swedes, but did not become members." This is what Jan Walker wrote about Wm J. Hague; her source is the GENEALOGY OF THE DARLINGTON FAMILY, I think: "SPOUSE RUTH MENDENHALL, md 16 May 1780. Moved from Chester Co. Pa about 1792 and settled in Menallen Twp., Pa. One of the first of six of earliest inhabitants of E. Springfield, OH (about 1811.) Children: JOHN, ELIZABETH, MARTHA(PATTY), WILLIAM, ISAAC, AARON, HANNAH b.22 Dec 1787 and md Lambert McComb in 1811. Son Isaac was of Ripley Twp., Holmes, OH, and lived there in 1843. WILLIAM HAGUE was sometimes called JOHN WILLIAM." ______________ Mrs. Ryall Kimber: "William Hague b 1746 Chester Co. Pa, has a brother John Hague Jr. b. Chester Co. Pa. Wm served under Capt Joseph Mendenhall, as a private in 2nd Co. Pennsbury, Chester Co. Militia. After Rev War they came to Menallen Twp . Then he settled near Nicholson Twp. in Fayette Co. P.A." "John Hague (Wm's father) came to Chester Co. Pa about 1747 from Holland." "Isaac Hague was the son of William Hague, Revolutionary Soldier, b 1746, Chester Co Pa; d 1843. M. Ruth Mendenhall May 16, 1780 in Old Swedes Ch, Wilmington, DE, who was b Sep 19, 1762, Pennsbury, Chester Co. PA. D. Holmes Co. Ohio." CENSUS: 1800 Menallen Twp. Fayette Co. PA: Head of Family: WILLIAM HAIG 2 m 45 and over, (William age 54..who is the other male--Ruth's father?) l f 26-44 (Ruth Mendenhall Hague age 38) l m l0-l5 (John- 19----hmmm doesn't fit We have full birthdates for most of this family.) l f l6-25 (Betsy-15 I wonder if John and Betsy's m/f numbers were flipped?) l f l0-l5 (Hannah-13) l f 0-9 (Patty- 9) 2 m 0-9 (William-7, Isaac- DEATH: date Source "THE MCCOMB FAMILY by Sarah Amanda McComb, pp 11-12, 54-58, 61. Copy in my possession:" said Carla Jarvi who sent Family Group record which was made up from this book. However her birth data for Ruth Mendenhall was "17 Aug 1762 or 19 July 1762, Delaware Co. PA." Either date is at variance with the Sep 19, 1762 which I had, so I kept what I had. |
