Notes for TOM WATSON GRIFFIN: Obituary Torn Watson Griffin, was born in Burke County, Georgia, to the late Smith and Emma Griffin September 13, 1893. He departed this life early Sunday, June 11, 1967 at the Sanitorium at MeCain, N. C. after a lengthy illness. In 1923, he moved to Greensboro, but shortly thereafter migrated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he resided until 1936 when he moved back to Greensboro. While at Fort Lauderdale, he was a member of Pinev Grove Baptist Church. After moving back to Greensboro, he was on February 14, 1952 united in Holy Marriage to Mrs. Rosa Crump who survives him. Earlier, he joined Shiloh Baptist Church, where he re-mained a devoted member. He was also active in the Masonic Order of Greensboro. Survivors, in addition to his widow, are: four sisters Mrs. Josephine Bell and Mrs. Nancy McGowan of Greensboro; Miss Mattie Griffin, New York City and Mrs. Willie Coleman of Burke County, Ga.; two brothers: Mr. Eddie Griffin of Greensboro and Mr. James Griffin of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and a host of neDhews and nieces. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1920 Census Burke County Ga. Notes for MATTIE GRIFFIN: Obituary Mattie Griffin was born in Waynesboro, Georgia on August 27, 1906. She was the youngest girl of twelve children born to the late Emma and Smith Griffin. She departed this life on March 17, 1993. Mattie Griffin was a resident of New York City. During this time, she was an active member of the church in New York City. She later returned to live with a sister in Waynesboro, Ga. until she and her sister became ill. She then returned to New York to reside with her niece and husband, Freddie and Lillye Watts of Jamaica, NY. Mattie attended church with the Watts family until her illness. Mattie is survived by one sister, Willie Coleman of Augusta, Ga., one nephew, Rufus Wornack of Bronx, NY. Three nieces, Lillye Watts of Jamaica, NY, Elois Bessent of Augusta, Ga. and Emma Wheeler of Bronx, NY., many cousins, grand and great nieces and nephews.
