Welcome to our home page! In Septeber 2005 we are moving back to Alaska, where we lived during the 1980s. We had lived in my family home in Hartford, Kansas since 1998, after I had been gone for 40 years. My roots in Hartford go back to 1871, and Linda's family is from the Clinton, Missouri area. Some of the names we are researching are: Tom= Griffiths, Tweedy, Baker, Estes (Yankee branch), West; Linda= Langford, Cole, Gilbert and Brownsberger.

For a long time I, (and others in my family doing research), was stuck on ancestor, Moses West, who was married to Mary Ranney (Rainney?), and died in Washington County, New York in 1801. They were married in Chatham, CT on 4 June 1771. I have a copy of his will and a petition Mary filed as a Revolutionary War widow. Some time ago I found an LDS record of a marriage between a Moses West & a Sarah Hopkins on 13 Feb 1746. I finally was able through an Internet contact to confirm that this Moses was my Moses' father. From this latest Moses West, the records show three additional generations back to a Thomas West and Phebe Waters from England. I continue to work on the documentation for these records.

I also would like to find out more detail about Samuel Ross Tweedy and Mary Baker (Edgar, Shelby and Jasper County, Illinois - circa 1843-1881). I finally found a record of their marriage in Effingham County. Thanks to the state of Illinois for putting the marriage index on-line. Also, last year I "accidently" ran across a reference in a history book on Effingham County, IL, mentioning a Ross Twedy who had a store in Montrose, IL in about 1872. Since Montrose is just a few miles from where Samuel Ross had a homestead, I suspect Ross Twedy and Samuel Ross Tweedy are one in the same. I hope to go to Effingham for addition research.

I am willing to share information with "cousins". My database currently has over 2,650 names in it.

  John Griffiths came to the United States in 1882 from Clatter, Llanwnog, Montgomeryshire, Wales, and settled in Hartford, Kansas.
