My GRIFFIN(GRIFFITH)/JONES lineage picks up in Isle of Wight Co, VA late 1600s, and what was/is Bertie, Edgecombe, and Nash County, NC in the early 1700s. I am led to believe that one John GRIFFIN(GRIFFITH) was born 1735 in Isle of Wight Co, VA (or Edgecombe Co., NC) and married Martha JONES 1761 (born 1740) in Isle of Wight Co, VA (or, Edgecombe Co., NC). I understand that the parents of Martha JONES were Francis Albrighton JONES and Julian NEWSOME.It is believed that this John died in NC in the late 1700s. It is also understood that his siblings and children started migrating into Hancock Co., GA in the late 1700s. Finally, settling in Monroe Co AL in the early 1800s. His brother William Griffin settled in Sumner Co., TN. A nephew, Rollins Griffin went on to settle in Nacgadoches Co., TX around 1850.
