I began researching my family's genealogy in 1991 and have been hooked ever since. The following are some of the key families, dates and places from my records: The KOCHER line and allied families KOCHER: The family records start with Peter KOCHER living in Northampton county, PA in the early 1700s. My line of the KOCHER family then moved to Monroe county, NY (1820s), Rock/Dane counties, WI (1860s) and finally Chicago, IL (1880s). Other family names in this line include EDELMAN and MESSINGER. BABCOCK: My first confirmed reference to the BABCOCK family is from 1800 Stephentown, Rensselaer county, NY. Here Jonathan C BABCOCK II was born and married Lucinda GREEN (E). Their daughter, Lucinda, married into the KOCHER family in 1844. From an unconfirmed perspective it appears that this BABCOCK line may be from the union of John BABCOCK and Amie BLY. If so, John's line would be Silas, Samuel, Capt. James, John BABCOCK. If this proves true other family names in this line include CLARKE, SPENCER, PENDLETON, SAUNDERS, DYER, HUTCHINSON, and many more. This family line tracks back to the early 1600's in MA and RI. CASLER: My current research goes back to Jacob/Jared CASLER in the late 1700s where the family moved between the Herkimer, Lewis and Jefferson counties in upstate NY. Ellen Milessa CASLER, Edgar CASLER and Zenana DAMON daughter, married into the KOCHER family in 1872. Zenana DAMON is a descendant of John DAMON b:1621 from Scituate, MA. DINGMAN: This family line was joined with the CASLER line around 1820 when Marigrit DINGMAN married Henry CASLER. Marigrit was the daughter of Gerardus DINGMAN and Katherine HENDRICKSON. Due to a recent find I'm now able to take this branch of my family back to the mid 1500's in Belgium. Allied family names include GARDENIER, SWARTWOUD, PHILIPSE and HENDRICKSON. The GROTE line and allied families GROTE: This one has been the toughest. My records start in Newport, KY during the 1850s where my great grandfather Richard Henry Louis GROTE was born. His parents, Charles GROTE and Elizabeth, came to the U.S. from Germany. The GROTE family spent a few years in St. Louis, MO. (1870s) and settled in Chicago, IL by the 1880s. The GROTE and KOCHER families were joined in 1916. RAKE: The RAKE family line starts in Hunterdon County, New Jersey with John RAKE. His great grandson, Jacob Fox RAKE married Sarah Ann CASE. Jacob and Sarah headed west (circa 1860) to settle in Cordova, Rock Island, IL. It is here that the RAKE and GROTE families united when Matilida RAKE married Richard Henry Louis GROTE in 1890. Other surnames in this family line include: THATCHER and LAREW (LaRue). The HOLVICK and LARSEN family lines HOLVICK: The origins of the HOLVICK family can be found on Norway's western coast. Thanks to family and internet connections in Norway I have been able to track parts of this family back to the late 1500s. At the turn on the century (1900) Thomas HOLVICK (Hellevik) married Ragna LARSEN and came to America. My mother was the 11th of twelve children and married into the GROTE family in 1942. LARSEN: This family line has orgins in several areas around Olso, Norway. Ragna LARSEN mother Marta OLESDATTER's family hails from Skedsmo and her father Casper LARSEN's family from Høland. The attached Family Tree Maker reports list all the individuals in my database who were born before 1923 and the ancestors of my various grandparents. If you are researching any families connected with those shown please e-mail at address shown. I welcome the chance to compare and share information.
