Descendants of George Grose

Generation No. 1

1. GEORGE1 GROSE1 was born Abt. 1798 in Brandenburg, Prussia, and died Bef. 1868 in Brandenburg, Prussia. He married JUDITH FREDERIKE DEVANTIER2 17 April 1820 in Bergholz, Kreis Prenzlau, Brandenberg, Prussia3, daughter of ABRAHAM DEVANTIER and JUDITH SALINGRE. Notes for G
EORGE GROSE:

I was unable to find a marriage of Judith Devantier with Georg Grose in the records available to me.

There was only a baptismal entry to be found in the church records of 1819 for Bergholz, which follows as my transcription.

[In French! On the 5 December at 7am an illegitimate son was born to Judith Devantier the daughter of Abraham Devantier, and of the servant George Grose). The child was presented for baptism on the 12 at the _______ ____ by young man Pierre Tourbié, young man Pierre Devantier, and by Frédéreique Siems's young daughter, all of Bergholz. The pastor gave the infant the name Gottlieb.
St. Martin Past. The father is the servant George Grose]

The following is given as a marginal note:

"The farm-hand Georg Grose married Judith Devantier, noted below, on 17 April 1820 and, on today's date, declared her son Gottlieb, born 5 December 1819 as his son, conceived with her.
Bergholz, the 5 March 1866, William Prediger."

With this entry and addendum the date of the Grose-Devantier marriage is at least clear. I suspect that the marriage entry will be in the Lutheran church register and am herewith giving you an address of our French-reformed Elder in Bergholz, Herr Strate. Request Herr Strate to redirect your letter to the Lutheran congregation in Bergholz. I think he will do this for you.
