This photo of my grandfather, Rufus Mathison,was taken from his 1932 Palmer College yearbook. The caption next to it reads, "Speed, that's Rufus! Conscientious and admired for his persistent playing in spite of injuries. Long will his brilliant playing at Chipley be remembered." The following year the caption read, "Rufus, crippled most of the year, played in every game and always came through when called upon. A jarring hard-hitting blocker and tackler, he cracked lines wide open. He was fast and elusive - his motto, 'They shall not pass' won games for Palmer."
