3. NATHANIEL3 BARTON (MOSES2, THOMAS1) was born August 01, 1799 in Pendleton District, South Carolina, and died August 01, 1879 in Cordova, Walker County, Alabama. He married (1) MARY (PROBABLY) YARBROUGH. She died Unknown. He married (2) MARY WILSON. She died Unknown. He married (3) MASSA ROGERS April 02, 1820 in Jefferson County, Alabama. She was born Abt. 1803 in Tennessee, and died Bef. 1860 in Walker County, Alabama.

ATHANIEL BARTON:
First wife, Mary (probably Yarborough) died. She had given birth to Nathaniel's oldest child, Moses, in 1818.

Nathaniel married his second wife, Massa, in Jefferson County, Alabama in 1820. Hiram was born in Jefferson County, Alabama in 1821. Moved to Walker County, Alabama around 1822.

1840 census. Alabama, Walker County, Roll 16, Book 1, #290a. Census reports the following in the household (the parenthesis is my speculation): 1 male age 40-50 (Nathaniel); one female age 30-40 (Massa); 2 males age 15-20; one male age 10-15; one female age 10-15; 2 males age 5-10 (James and Elija); one female age 5-10 (Emaline); one male under 5 (John); and one female under 5.

1850 census. Alabama, Walker County, 12-District, Roll 16, Book 1, #314b. Nathaniel (50) is living with his wife, Massa (47) and children Elija (20); James (17); Emaline (15); John M (14); and William (8). Nathaniel is farming.

April 2, 1857. Bought 41 acres. NE1/4 of SE1/4 Section 32, T14, R6W, Certificate #25071, Deed Book F35, P. 375, Walker County, Alabama.

Massa died prior to 1860. Nathaniel married his third wife, Mary Wilson. She birthed him two children, Nathaniel Jr. and Hugh.

The following is recorded in Deed Book F35, page 144, Walker County, Alabama, Courthouse as originally copied by Willie Barton of Jasper, Alabama (and documented in Volume 7, Tree 1913): I, Nathaniel Barton, Sr., for natural affection which I bear toward my two sons, Nathaniel Barton, Jr. and Hugh A. Barton, Jr, for $1.00 do sell to Nathaniel and Hugh W. of the NE 1/4 section 32, T14, R5W; also personal property, 1 mare and her colt, 1 bed, bedsteads, and bed clothing, also all other person except such notes as my be due at my death I may owe at the time of death. I am to hold the possession during my lifetime and at my death, my body to receive a decent and respectable burial, after my former order to life and my funeral expenses be paid. And upon the further condition that after my death my beloved wife, Mary A. Barton, is to have and retain use of property and so much rents and incomes of my farm as my afford her a comforable living. 28 May 1879.
