    Timothy Gruwell was born in Kent County, Delaware and was orphaned as a young child. After growing up in the Philadelphia area Timothy married Alice Pennock and moved to Stark County, Ohio. Timothy was a Quaker who raised a family of 13 children.
  • Alice Pennock (1776 - 1868) (47 KB)
    Alice Pennock was a descendant of the prominent Pennock family of Primitive Hall in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Alice married Timothy Gruwell in 1803 and raised a family of 13 children. After her husband's death Alice moved to Cedar County, Iowa.
