JORG (GERG) GÜDEMANN (son of MARTIN GÜDEMANN) was born 1579 in Hasel or Kürnberg, Baden, Germany, and died September 02, 1635 in Hausen, Baden, Germany. He married (1) Margretha Fünfschilling on February 03, 1606 in Schopheim, Baden, Germany (1st marriage). He married (2) Elsbeth Schelshörnin on July 18, 1617 in Hausen, Baden, Germany (2nd marriage).
Notes for JORG (GERG) GÜDEMANN: Church records in Schopfheim, Baden, Germany, document that Jorg (Gerg) married Margretha Fünfschilling on February 3, 1606, at which time he was a citizen of Kürnberg; and that he died on September 2, 1635, in Hausen at the age of 56, establishing his year of birth as 1579. Since no records were kept prior to 1605, we cannot be certain of his place of birth; but we can be highly confident that it was in either Kürnberg, where he was living in 1606, or in the nearby village of Hasel. A 1593 document stored in the Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany, State Archives reveals that the Güdemanns of Kürnberg sold a house in Hasel in that year, indicating that the family may have been living there in 1579 when Jorg (Gerg) was born.
He was shown as Gerg on the record of his first marriage and as Jorg on his second marriage record.
After his first marriage, he moved from Kürnberg, a Güdemann stronghold, west across the Wiese River to Hausen, where no Güdemann had previously lived. After Bartholomäus was born in 1623, there were no more Güdemann births in Hausen, and the name soon disappeared from the village. Today, no Güdemann lives in either Kürnberg or Hausen, but the Güdemann name still has a presence in Hasel.
The marriage of Jorg (Gerg) to Margretha in 1606 was the first Güdemann marriage to be recorded in the church records in Schopfheim.
The village of Hausen was spelled Husen prior to 1615.
His first wife, Margretha Fünfschilling, was from Haltingen, Baden, Germany, in the Rhine River Valley twelve miles southwest of Kürnberg. Elsbeth Schelshören, his second wife, was from Glasshütt(en), Baden, Germany, five miles east of Kürnberg.
His first wife died three and one-half months after her last child was born , and he married again one year later.
It may well be that a Martin Güdemann of Kürnberg, one of the principals of the 1593 real estate transaction, who was also listed in the 1592 tax rolls of the St. Blasien Cloister, was the father of Jorg (Gerg). He would have been the right age, having been born in1548, as determined by the record of his death in 1630 at the age 82. As further support for this supposition, the first son of Jorg(Gerg) was also named Martin.
Jorg(Gerg) and his son Niclaus died within 26 days of one another, in September 1635, at the time of an epidemic of the Bubonic Plague during the Thirty Years' War. Our ancestor Bartholomäus, being the youngest of eleven children, was only twelve years old when his father died,
Our ancestors lived in Hausen from about 1606, when Jorg(Gerg) first married and moved there from Kürnberg, to about 1643, when Bartholomäus moved to End(en)burg, six miles west, to marry Maria Gretherin.
