Martin had a stroke from which he lost all strength and could not move his hands and feet. He could not stand up and had to remain in bed in the position in which he was placed. He blamed his misfortune on the fact that, when he was healthy, he freely cursed and used the Lord's name in vain. During his prolonged illness he lamented his earlier behavior and sobbed because of it. He died at the age of 51 years, 5 months, and 3 weeks.
