Johann Jacob Friedrich Güdemann (son of Johann Jacob Güdemann and Maria Barbara Wehrlin) was born April 24, 1835 in Kaltenbach, Baden ,Germany, and died October 07, 1922 in Lörrach, Baden, Germany. He married Katharina Barbara Asal on May 19, 1864 in Vogelbach, Baden Germany, daughter of Johannes Asal and Anna Maria Breh.

Johann Jacob Friedrich Güdemann was the last male Güdemann to be born in Kaltenbach when he was born there in 1835. The history of the family in Kaltenbach extends back to 1676, when Johann Güdemann moved there from Endenburg to marry Maria Strohmeyer. All the Güdemanns ever born in the Kandern River Valley are descendants of this couple.

With Katharina Barbara Asal he sired a son who was born on September 15,
1863, in Edenbach near Kaltenbach. Five months before the child was born,
Johann Jacob Friedrich applied for permission to travel to America with the
statement:

I want to take a trip to America and I will decide then if I will officially request to emigrate, depending on how well it goes for me in America.

Arriving in America at the height of the Civil War, he decided to return to Germany and settle down in Kandern and marry Katharina Barbara Asal, with whom he had seven more children.
