Updated August 26, 2001

What started out as a winter project for me, turned into a lifetime project for my Mom, my sister and I. We have only just begun & have found some very interesting characters in our past,& will eventually share it all with you. For those of you that find that you are a part of this family, we do have another online website that is setup just for family. It is password protected, and we have alot of family pictures and history on it. So make sure that you email one of us...see below

The Gudgeon family came from Ulverston UK (see link below) in 1920/21. My Great Grandfather Jonathan Gudgeon, b7/12/1878, the Son of Jonathan Gudgeon b:unknown and Elizabeth Redmonds b:unknown, owned a cycle manufacturing business in Ulverston 1900-1920. He had two brothers, Robert Henry Gudgeon b8/16/1882 and George Gudgeon b6/18/1876. Robert came 1st to America. He owned the Gudgeon Stables in Montecito-Santa Barbara CA, and trained the thoroughbred horse they used in the sequel Grand National, to National Velvet with Elizabeth Taylor. George followed in Sept 1920 & Jonathan (my great-grandfather) in Jan1921, with his wife Mary Ellen Jones b2/13/1880, and their four sons, John E. b11/22/1900, George (my grandfather) b1902, Norman b9/1903 and Leslie b3/23/1911

The Chappell family has a connection to a scandal in the St Louis MO area, a big lawsuit that involves the Sublette family. Jemina Sublette (she is either the daughter of a Sublette, or grandaughter) married Erastus William Chappell b1846. Jemina died at a very young age, and he remarried a Jennie and had three more children.. Jemina's two son's had proof that they were the only living heirs to the estate, and both gave an attorney 100.00 each along with the paper work. The attorney was never heard from again. Unfortunately, there were no copy machines in those days, so this attorney had the original documents. Erastus's father, James Chappell b1815 VA, and James father John Chappell b:1787 Wythe Cnty VA. Erastus's son John Lane Chappell married Ida Manara Rankin. Their son Oliver Erastus Chappell was my grandfather on my mother's side.

The Peckhams, my information goes back to the early 1600's. John Peckham came to American between 1634 & 1638, probably with the Duke of Somerset, William Seymour, one of the most powerful noblemen during the reign of Charles the 1st. John Peckham was Chaplain to the Duke, earlier known as the Earl of Hertford. John's son, Reverend William Peckham b1647, was ordained Nov 15, 1711 Pastor of First Baptist Church of Newport RI. He is said to have been the 1st ordained Baptist minister on the continent. We have this wonderful old painting that was passed down thru the generations of the Peckhams, and we believe it is either George Hazard Peckham b1813 or William Tweed Peckham b1855. Bernice Peckham, my grandmother, is connected to the Wilbor family several times....please see link below.

The Ryan family: my great grandfather was Andrew "Anders" Jackson Ryan, a US Marshal out of Fort Smith Arkansas. His brother Stephen "Walker" Ryan started the town of Ryan OK. My great grandfather m:Dora Isabelle Baggett(see link below). Dora was 1/4 Cherokee. Andrew's father John Gilford Ryan m:Elizabeth Catherine Garner. Elizabeth's great-great grandfather Peter Garner came from Germany b1725.(see Garner link below). Andrew's daughter Nellie Lavera Ryan was my grandmother.

If you have any additional information or stories that you'd like to share, we'd love to hear from you...please email me or Glynna:glynna.gudgeon@verizon.net or Lynda: Jolynholt@aol.com
