Probably born in England. Immigrant, he was brought into Northampton County, VA by Obedience Robins [see notes for Obedience Robins] as recorded on 22 March 1643, when he was listed as one of the Head Rights of Obedience Robins, who on that day received a patent for 450 acres in Northampton County, Virginia.. Northampton Co. Records, Vol. 3, p. 229, Vol. 4, p. 175 show him there by 1650. He migrated to Isle of Wight Co., Va as recorded in land transfer records, 1673-1706, between him and his son, Arthur (hereafter referred to as Arthur, II, though in some records he is listed as Arthur Whitehead, Jr.) The name of his first wife is not known, but they were not married long and only one child, a son Arthur is known.

After the death of her husband, ARTHUR, in 1655, the young widow married EDWARD THORNTON. After he died, KATHERINE married a third time to JOHN BATHE. KATHERINE RUFFIN WHITEHEAD THORNTON BATHE died in 1687, somewhat estranged from her son, ARTHUR, leaving him only an old ram.
