Pierre Guilbault left the security of family and friends in LaRochelle, France to start a new life in the colony of New France (Quebec) in 1657. This site is dedicated to his descendants. My son, David Guilbault, is the 14th generation of Guilbault's in the "new world". There are now thousands of Guilbault's throughout North America. Click on "Descendants of Francois" to view the whole family tree (30 pages long!).
Several other Guilbault's have emigrated over the years. Another Pierre Guilbault left LaRochelle for Acadia (Nova Scotia) in 1668. His descendants are well documented. When the English expelled the Acadians about 1758, this line moved to Louisiana. Louis Guilbault came to Quebec from LaRochelle about 1679; other Guilbault's may have immigrated over the years. Variations on the spelling of our surname include: Guilbeault Guilbaut, Guilbeau, Guillebeau etc. and Guilbault dit Grandbois.
I am also researching my mother's surname Stadnik or Stadnick, Ukraine-Canada 1918.
