Notes for WILLIAM ALEXANDER DINSMORE:
We are not certain where William was born but it is told that his son, Alvin Knott Dinsmore, was born in Massachusetts (The family Bible lists b: July 4, 1846; d: Oct 11, 1911. (Alvin is the only son we know of and we don't know who Alvin's mother was). We do know that William lived at some time in Breathedsville, Maryland, in Washington County. His grandson, Benjamin Suman Dinsmore (born 1885), related that his grandfather was tall (6-ft.3) and walked a mile or more every day even into his nineties. Some time after his death in 1894, two sisters had his remains exhumed and moved to the family burial plot in ____?____ Pennsylvania. (The year this happened is not known and we don't know where he was first buried].
It is told that Alvin ran away from home to join the Army. We have his discharge paper which states:
We know that Alvin Knott Dinsmore married Mary Ellen Suman, b March 27, 1850; d Nov 11, 1918. (Mary's family is buried at the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetary in Boonesboro, Maryland.) Alvin and Mary had nine children.
