There are variations of the Guilmette spelling ie. Guillemette, Guillemet, Guilleme, Guillement, Guilmot. All are related and originally migrated from France in the 1600's to the Ile d'Orleans, which is and island located on the St. Lawrence River near Quebec. When I visited Quebec July, 1998, I discovered that there were still several hundred Guillemette families living their and actually met a distant cousin. There are approximately 1500 Guilmette families living in the United States and most of them are living in New England. Those Guilmette's who were farmers, moved to the western part of the U.S. Those that were fisherman moved south to the New England States. My GGGrandfather Dennis O'Brien (b 1824 in Ireland, He joined the English Army presumably around the 1840's ("with credit"). He married Ellen Cummings. 4 Children, Mary Ann, Katie, Elizabeth and Dennis James. came to USA around 1867. I am trying to find the County in which they came from in Ireland; He probably had siblings who remained in Ireland. Any help would be greatly appreciated. His Parent's names were John & Elizabeth O'Brien My Great Grandfather, John W Brady was born in 1865 in Ballyconnell, County Cavan, Ireland. His parents names were John and Mary (Riley) Brady, born approximately between 1825 and 1840. John W Brady also had a brother, Thomas born 1872 or 1873 and a sister (name not known) John and Thomas emigrated in the late 1800's to Fall River Massachusetts USA but the sister went to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA. John's father must have had some siblings where the connection can be made. Any help would be greatly appreciated. | Guilmette, O'Brien & Brady Home Page Updated April 22, 2001 |
