For some CRAZY reason I thought it would be fun to research my family tree. It has been fun and extremely interesting but now I realize that I will be researching my many family connections for years and years to come. Once you think you have adequately completed your research, another cousin pops up!
On my mother's side, I am researching the Marcum and Damron families of Wayne County, West Virginia. Two well-known ancestors of these families are Josiah Marcum and Lazarus Damron. At least it seems that almost everyone in Wayne County knows who they are!
I am also researching my maternal links to the Campbell, Davis and Purcell families of Southwest Virginia. My ggggrandfather on the Campbell side was Fountain Campbell of Virginia but I cannot seem to get any further than him. My gggggrandfather on the Davis side was George Davis of Mecklenberg County, North Carolina. His son, Holden Davis, brought this particular Davis family to Russell County, Virginia.
I have some luck researching my father's side of the family but not as much as I would like. My great grandfather was Rufus Lilly, son of Jonathan "Todger" Lilly and Lucinda Meador of Summers County, West Virginia. I have successfully traced this line to Robert Lilly of Giles County, Virginia. I have not been able to locate the family of my great grandmother, Minnie Cox of Southern West Virginia. I have traced his father's side back to Sampson Taylor of Mercer County, West Virginia. I would love to connect with other people researching these families.
Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or corrections.
