Notes for George Washington Fulcher:
George Washington Fulcher is perceived as the son of Thomas Fulcher Jr. of a family long associated with Great Island and Core Banks, N.C. He was born during the Presidency of George Washington, and was given the popular first President's name. He was, without a doubt, a fisherman, as were many of his family. On dec. 10, 1821 there is a record that George sold a pilot boat to Marmaduke Royal. Marmaduke Royal was his Father in law, for on Dec. 13, 1817, George had been united in marrige with Mary Royal. a daughter of the Cape Lookout shipbuilder and his first wife, Martha " molly " Bell. Thereafter, the couple appear to have resided near Cape Lookout, N.C. and it is probable that George was engaged in the Marmaduke Royal shipbuilding enterprise.
