Shearin Family History, by Jean Adams
"Either Moses or Aaron Shearing was the father of Joseph Shearin. The brothers were deported from England to the British Colonies because they participated in the Monmouth Rebellion in Wales in 1685.
They were sold into servitude to Colonel Gideon Macon of York County, VA. The current Newport News area, on the York River.
After coming to VA, they dropped the "g" from their surname. Thus Shearing became Shearin. One brother died unmarried, which one is not known. The other married and had children, and is believed to be the father of Joseph. The "g" was dropped from the spelling after the second generation in America."

"Family legend maintains two Shearin brothers, Moses and Aaron, were deported from England as rebels in the Monmouth Uprising of 1685. The legend also notes their services were sold to a Colonel Gideon Macon or York County, VA, as indentured servants. One brother died and the other one married and had children. Joseph is believed to be a son of the brother that survived. No one knows with certainty which brother lived."
